Dog Gone ... Landlords

Have you ever had to give up your beloved pet because you needed to rent an apartment or home and found out that landlords don't allow pets? Are you frustrated at trying to find a decent rental unit that accepts pets ... and that also charges a reasonable rent?

A Couple of Tips for Responsible Pet Owners Seeking Rental Housing

  • Show that you are a responsible pet owner by having proof of licensing, neutering, necessary vaccinations, obedience school or anything else that helps make your case.
  • Have references the from previous landlords that specifically mention your pet .
  • Offer to pay an additional pet deposit or small monthly charge

Some dogs are prohibited by the landlords insurance company

      An increasing number of insurance companies are refusing to insure landlords for certain breeds of dogs that might be owned by tenants.  Landlords should be aware of what their policy says on the subject and tenants should be aware that this issue is beyond control of the landlord.

Some pets are prohibited by law as well as landlords

      Ferrets and skunks are a couple of the exotic animals that are sometimes kept as pets.
